Black Canyon park maybe it is not one of the most visited and best known but it is beautiful with dramatic, steep cliffs and sheer walls that plunge into the Gunnison River below. It is perfect for 2 days weekend but we just did. This park was for long in our mind to visit and it was last national park in Colorado to visit. It was our 38 out 63 National Parks in USA.

South Rim
South Rim is more popular and only here you have Visitor Center in case you need any information or souvenirs. It has lot of short trail with amazing views. We did not do Gunnison Route hike down to bottom of canyon because of weather.
We stop on each view point and did a short hike. Because of rain the view was dramatic and more beautiful. We recommend Gunnison Point and for Painted Wall to stop at Chasm View and of course Painted View Point.
We also covered East Portal and drove down to the river.

North Rim
This Rim is less crowded. From. South Rim is about 1h 20min. We decided to see this side next day. Weather was better, so we could get different view at canyon. It is very short drive and easily doable in 2-3h. View spots are not so far from parking.

Animals
If you will be lucky you can see bighorn and cute bunnies.

It was just a weekend, but standing at the edge of those steep, shadowy cliffs made time feel like it paused. Black Canyon may not be the biggest or most famous, but it’s a reminder that you don’t need weeks off or a plane ticket to feel wonder—sometimes, all it takes is a few days and a wild canyon carved by time.
